Arts and Crafts house (in progress)

The client has embarked on an extension and interior project for their Arts & Crafts family home in York.

Bedroom with a brass bed, plaid pillows, quilted blanket, wooden nightstands, blue table lamps, and a spherical pendant light.

Set to expand the ground and first floors, add a new level, and incorporate stained glass windows and doors, the client wants to embrace this opportunity for a reimagined interior with specific challenges to be overcome, including:

Bridging the gap between the period charm of the original house and the new extension in way that feels natural.

The differing tastes of the couple to be unified in a style that feels true to them both.

A home that expresses a love of family, art, music, and creativity. That feels relaxed, fun, and personal, without compromising on quality or character.

To incorporate their inherited furniture and art.

Isobel designs a concept that answers all these challenges, allowing space and celebration for the clients love of art, music and literature, and that is grounded in the way they live; informally, with fun, warmth and ease.

Antique pieces and collected artworks are thoughtfully integrated, bringing soul and familiarity to the new spaces, while the overall tone remains elegant and inviting. The design concept balances traditional and contemporary elements, and whilst each space has a distinctive function and personality there is a cohesive thread running throughout the original and additional parts of the house. The visual language finds the harmonious whole, giving form to a style the couple can both connect with, relaxed and confident, at times eclectic and playful

The result is the detailed vision of a home that feels developed yet family-friendly, rooted in character and designed to evolve with the client over time

‘It’s a pleasure to take the client from the seed of an idea into a beautiful, cohesive and personal vision that tells the unique story of their family and home’
