Interior design masterclass for blissful homes

Birdsall House, Malton
Blissful Home interior design Masterclass
Overview
An intimate one-day interior design masterclass within the beautiful setting of Birdsall House, a private estate in North Yorkshire known for its heritage, architectural elegance and peaceful situation.
The event was created for individuals seeking to create a home interior that feels personal, timeless, and full of character. Offering the opportunity to understand why certain spaces feel right. Attendees were interested in colour and decoration, but also in creating homes that feel intuitive, intentional, and personal.
Each element of the day was curated with care: from the setting and the materials to the structure and flow of the session itself. The aim was not only to educate, but to inspire, to give guests the tools and confidence to begin crafting a home that reflects who they are and how they want to live.
The masterclass
The day unfolded in the light-filled ballroom of Birdsall House, surrounded by sweeping parkland and framed by centuries of history and craftsmanship. Certainly an inspiring backdrop to explore the subtleties of home interiors.
The masterclass was structured around a series of interactive, discussion-based sessions, covering:
Balancing the emotional and functional needs of your home
How to develop a cohesive colour story and wider narrative
Creating rhythm and contrast through texture, pattern and materiality
Working with the existing character of your home, whether period or modern
Building a space that reflects your personality, without relying on trends
The atmosphere was warm, collaborative, and gently paced, blending design theory with real-world application and offering space for individual guidance. Visual examples helped illustrate key concepts, while physical samples of fabrics, wallpapers, paints, tiles, and even scent provided a multi-sensory way to explore materiality and mood.
Each guest received a workbook, written by me, to support their interior story, along with a beautifully curated goody bag, generously provided by our sponsors.
It was a day of beauty, creativity, and connection and it allowed time to pause, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversation. Over a seasonal lunch served in the elegant drawing room, ideas flowed freely, and guests enjoyed the chance to connect in a way that felt both personal and inspiring.
Outcome
We ended up with a couple more guests than originally planned, which was wonderful as attendees travelled from across the region to join us.
Everyone left feeling inspired, not just with new ideas but with a greater sense of clarity and confidence. Some of the guests went on to work with me privately and all were invited to keep in touch, should they wish to develop their ideas further.
Many described it as a turning point in how they thought about their homes, shifting from surface-level decoration to something more layered, personal, and intuitive.

Reflections
I genuinely believe interior design has the power to express who you are and to shape spaces that not only support your everyday life but also bring you joy. This event was a delight to lead because it allowed me to share that belief in a tangible, personal way, and to offer insight into how I approach creating meaningful, individual interiors.
It was an honour to connect with each and every guest, all of whom cared deeply about their homes. The principles and techniques we explored are universal, whether you’re working with a grand estate or a modest townhouse. We looked at both practical and instinctive ways to create beauty, balance, and a true sense of belonging and wellbeing in any home.
This was a wonderful way to spend a day, in peaceful surroundings, immersed in rich content and thoughtful conversation, alongside like-minded souls, who all shared a genuine interest in the craft of considered living.
